Throughout the season, the marching band performs during
every home football game, with a half time show. This
show is what they take to competition, a handful of
Saturdays from late September to early November. During
each competition, the band is judged throughout a single
performance for such things as marching skills, general
visual effect, and music quality, and receives a score out
of 100 possible points. Sometimes, the band must
overcome setbacks, like muddy fields, or low-scoring
judges - setbacks that occasionally can lower the band's
score from the previous weekend. Even so, the
marching band endures it all, and after the marching
season, the band disperses, coming back together a week or
two before a parade, or for the band trip in the spring.
It can be hard work, but there is scarcely a band member
who doesn't enjoy doing it.
